Laaga UNGLI Pe Daag...
Nothing to my credit, but i happen to belong to the most talked about constituency of Gujarat... for outsiders...it's the Gandhinagar constituency....of the 17-18 candidates in the fray, the most happening ones happened to be L.K.Advani, Suresh Patel( from the Congress Party n representing the Patel community, n wanting to cut into the 'patel' votes of Advani....who really cares, not me...) and and....Dr. Mallika Sarabhai(does she need an introduction from me or does she???).....
Arre re re....i've got into the wrong side of things, as usual....i've swayed away from my very purpose of writing this post....it's been 4 days tht i voted, but this stain or mark (or whtever it's called) on the index finger of my left hand is just nt getting lighter (rubbing n rigorous use of soap hv not helped), n it was so very half-heartedly n uglily done by 'the madam' who was assigned this job tht she din't even care tht some of the 'ink' trickled, found its way n spread into the fold at the junction of the nail n the skin.....not to blame her completely.....some of the blame to be shared by the maddening heat (the temperature was a soaring 43*C n it was 2 in the afternoon, wht (in)correct time on my part to choose to vote)...... an indelible mark for a very delible act....irony,irony....
i'm forced to sing, "Laaga ungli pe daag, mitaon kaise?"...but the histrionics n expressions r just nt coming...eeeks......
Nevertheless, i'm an eternal optimist, n as always, i see the brighter side of things......having my finger stained, i'm suddenly in some august company, i'll let these pictures do the speaking......
interesting photostream..whatsay guys?? this has been the most picturesque of my blabberings so far...
if ur still wondering who the man in the brick orange shirt is, it's me.....hmmm....i've dared to place myself amidst these stalwarts(it's perfectly ok by me to daydream, kya harzz hai).... it's a fad to flash ur finger in this season of elections, wht's the harm in joining the bandwagon....lol....
if the mighty Bachchans n Aamir chose white, Hrithik sported blue n Shahrukh grey, Ranbir flaunted pink n John (probably) wore a shade of mauve, i had to look different...but this is just a blemish of a difference.....the bigger n the more important difference is - while all of these were seen brandishing their middle fingers, it was the index finger on my part....reasons could be any...take a google search to find out....am already feeling worn out writing this post.... so i'm the most decent of 'em all, 'coz all of us know wht it means to flash ur middle finger....chhi....
while typing this post, time n again, my attention gets drawn inadvertently to this 'daag' on my 'unglee'....n i'm forced to think tht it shall fade away in time, but wht 'bout the 'daag' tht our 'netas' hv given to the country, shall it ever get washed away?? Not surprisingly, many people refrained from voting n getting their fingers' stained 'coz they din't know whom to vote for....sabhi to 'daagi' hain....

Ye Hai YOUNGISTAN Meri Jaan??
this time round, there's this hype surrounding young political leaders professed to bring in this fresh new 'young' wave into Indian Politics....whom r they kidding?? in the name of 'young', we hv a bevy of players, all of whom hv famous second names n a bright political lineage as their sole credential......
as his only claim to fame, a young 'saffron' Gandhi ridicules the greatest Gandhi , n fanatically lungs out communal remarks in order to make a place n be heard in the deafening political cacophony and later denies it with an absolute straight face, accusing the tapes to be doctored....clearly, not courage or political will, but desperation dictates these moves.....kya ye hai 'youngistan' meri jaan?
Priyanka (Gandhi, not Chopra) spurts into the scene, like the proverbial 'Jack in the box' each time the country prepares for the polls, rooting for 'amma' n 'bhaiya'...... at most other times, she's conspicuous by her absence.....
While Rahul (yet another Gandhi) is already being propagated as a silent crusader n heir apparent to the throne of the PM, one wonders if he really deserves it....or does he?? afterall, wht more does one need than a pretty face, the right surname, chic white cotton 'kurta pyjamas' to become the PM??
Gandhis apart, the young brigade comprises of the Pilots, the Deoras, the Scindias, the Abdullahs, all of whom inherited the positions they now hold from their Daddyjis n it's on tht steam only tht they find an abode in partisan politics..........no name of a young politician strikes me who's made it totally own his own virtues.....
Danson Joseph, general secretary of Jago Party, which represents middle-class professionals frustated by mainstream parties, wails, "There is no place in politics for someone like me who doesn't have money n muscle power and the wrong surname.."(Source: Sunday Times, dated 12/4/09)....tht does reflect the sentiment of the common (young) man on the street....well, tht's the sordid state of affairs of Indian politics today.....
Does India then qualify to be called a democracy in the truest sense of the word? Does Universal Adult Franchise alone make India a democracy? Is it actually of the people, by the people, for the people?? Or is it just for a handful of people to fill their pockets n fulfil their vested interests?? it really strikes a discordant note within people like me, who can either sulk n peeve or feel sorry.....this political mess looks incorrigible to me as of now.....
40% of the country's voters today are under 35 (read- young) n this high decibel hype n hoopla of the political reform in favour of the youth appears nothing more than yet another drama to entice n solicitously woo these naive breed of voters....ouch...it leaves a bad taste in the mouth tht how politicians can make anything work to their advantage.....
n the irony of it all....who've been fielded as the prime-ministerial candidates by the two leading alliances?....an aging octogenarian who flaunts his youth by hitting a gym, and another into his late seventies, whose blocked arteries needed a bypass a few dayzz back.......
Nevertheless, a trickle of 'change' has tacitly made an entry into 'young' minds, n it'll take quite some time for this trickle to become a tide, when we shall hv young political idols to look upto........till tht time ....we, the youth, have 'roadies' to appeal to us n a sip of a beverage down our throats, only to burp out loud - "Ye Hai Youngistan Meri Jaan!!!"

Ye Dance Nahi Aasaan
I was quick to notice this ad in one of the dailies for dance classes by SDIPA (Shaimak Davar's Institute for the Performing Arts) and i thot tht my lazy, laidback, perenially 'vell..la' evenings had suddenly found an occupation, not so easily though.........
Enrolling into the class and actually getting there was quite an uphill task and almost a tale of courage....i struggled hard and thot twice, thrice, a hundred times before mustering enough courage to dial the number to enquire 'bout the classes....was pretty upbeat once i successfully accomplished the first step, 'twas smooth sailing after that till the day when the batch was to start...20th Jan was the date....reached the venue with a lotta shakiness, 'nervous' was written all over my face, was juggling with 'to go' or 'not to go' all throughout and with all the dilly-dallying, eventually decided to take the plunge and venturously ventured into the venturesome venture, a tad precariously though.......it was meant to fall in my lot...
15 hours of dance spread over a month and a half followed by a stage act was quite an experience in itself, replete with pleasant memories and new-found friendships....nt sure how much of dance i've managed to learn , but it did help me tide over my coyness n chagrin, as far as dancing is concerned, which is not less than a battle won for me....it's fun sometimes to persuade urself into indulgences tht don't come easy to u.....
So, i highly recommend this to all - "Dance pe chance maar le" .....but all u 'pappu's who can't dance saala - beware, "Ye dance nahi aasaan, bass itnaa samajh lijei, ek aag ka dariya hai, aur doobke jaana hai..."

Why shud boyz have all the fun...2
Sequels ka zamaana hai...u had Dhoom2 , Lage Raho Munnabhai, Golmaal Returns, Phir Hera Pheri, Sarkaar Raj, et al............tht's a recent phenomenon in Bollywood; Hollywood has been there n done tht for years now....
But it is not this 'sequel' thing tht prompted me to write a sequel to my previous post....hua aisa ki, i had not watched Dev D till then, n after having it, i was tempted to add to my thots expressed in the last post, 'coz it came very close to wht i was trying to put across....
I wud call the maker of this movie a braveheart, for reasons more than one...... it proudly potrayed women as sexual beings, as much as men, without being derogatory....how menacingly flirtatious is it for a heroine to carry a mattress all the way on a bicycle and invite the hero to make it out in the fields and literally 'toot padna' onto him, there's nothin' sinful 'bout it.... n Mahie Gill rocked...and not just the heroine, the other girl (a certain Rasika in the movie) sends an open invite to him for some fun in the murghi ghar, n absolutely makes no bones 'bout it.......
In which hindi movie before this one has a hero asked the heroine for a nude pic of hers and she complies with an equal fervour? is tht crass or vulgar? i think tht's 'liberating' in the true sense of the word...it's ok for love n lust to peacefully co-exist 'coz they aren't sworn enemies, love doesn't lose its purity or truthfulness if u lust for ur partner, sexuality has been n wud always remain an essential part of a man-woman relationship tied by so-called 'love'.........
Sexuality is as old as humanity itself...why shy away from it? why talk 'bout it in hushed whispers? why associate it with a nagging sense of guilt? why mix it with morality? It's just a matter of seeing it in the right perspective..tht's it.............
